About this experience

The spring has no name on any map and the only way in is on horseback — about ninety minutes each way through a green river valley, on Icelandic horses who know the route better than we do. You will learn the tölt, the breed’s famous fifth gait, whether you ask to or not. At the spring: an hour’s soak at a perfect 39°C, with the valley entirely to yourselves. Saddlebags carry towels, dry layers and lunch. Riding experience helps but is not required; the horses have seen it all.

The ride is half the therapy — the tölt is hilariously smooth. The spring itself is a fairy tale. Saddle soreness is real; the soak fixes it.
